Day 7: Fresno, Traver and Exeter

As always, we woke up early (but not as early as all the other days) and ate the hotel breakfast.

                                                           Wakey, wakey littles ones!

Its not that much stuff for a family of 5 right?

We checked out and went a few blocks away to Forestiere Underground Gardens in Fresno, Ca.

Most people haven't heard about these gardens and people always ask how I find these things. When I am trip planning, I do searches like "Unusual things to do in Fresno." Then I research the various things that catch my eye. Usually one search leads to another and so forth. And then an awesome trip is born.

I am not going to go into the whole history on this blog, but I would encourage anyone visiting Fresno to check this place out. The history behind it is really, really cool. Basically (per Wikipedia), the gardens are an unusual manmade creation built by Baldasare Forestiere, an immigrant from Sicily, over a period of 40 years. It started as a project due to the heat in Fresno. But this guy literally dug rooms underground. Seriously, google this place its crazy!

Putting up our pin and signing the visitor's book.

The guy's underground dining room with sun roof.

This picture was taken from underground. Crazy right?

He even made a built in fish tank where he could see the fish above him. He actually was able to keep live fish when he lived there.

After touring this incredible place, we got back on the road towards Traver to see Bravo Farms. Its the 2nd happiest place on earth.

Its home to a 7 story tree house that you can actually walk up.

The top!

We sure did!

There was a lot of things to see besides the treehouse. There were unique signs everywhere, there were goats roaming around, there was a large area with trucks to play with, there was a smaller tree house with slide and they even served food. Such a fun place.

The kids got to feed the goats. Funny thing is there was a resident goat walking around. A bunch of kids were messing with him and he kinda bumped into Sariah. She wasn't messing with him and was being really gentle. We assumed he was just taking out his anger on her. Also, he peed on me. He was on the top level and I was right underneath. Then I felt water or something falling from what I thought was the sky. Then I noticed it was the goat peeing on me. Good times!

Pavlovian conditioning at work again... as soon as the girls touched this machine the goats appeared...

After we left Bravo Farms, we made our way to Exeter, CA which is known for their murals. The murals are pretty darn amazing, definitely worth the stop over...

                                            Thats Priyana in the middle...

All the murals are within a short distance from each other. The downtown area was pretty empty, so we were able to drive around and stop for a few photo ops. Then we made our way back on the road towards Oxnard to hang with our favorite Oxnardians for a night. The kids slept almost the entire way back...

I got pretty tired as well, and about 100 miles from Oxnard I finally, for the first time the entire trip, turned the steering wheel over to Daniel.

We made it to Oxnard and spent the night and the next day with two of the kids favorite people in the world.

We left around bedtime the next day for the trek back to San Diego...

We logged a total of 1780 miles! When Daniel first suggested we do a trip in California because there was so much here to see, I was a bit skeptical to be honest. But this trip was absolutely amazing. I cannot believe there is so many cool things just a few hours away from where we live. I was so proud of the kids, they did better than we could have hoped. Even Veena, our wild card on the trip, did extraordinary. We really didn't have any issues and that made the trip all the more enjoyable. I think more road trips are in our future. We are so blessed to have had the opportunity to go on this amazing trip.

We are also blessed to be able to come back to our incredible home. I am also happy to be home.
